The No. 3 seed Madill baseball team's run to the Lake Country Conference tournament title faltered only in the championship game with a 6-1 loss to Marshall County foe Kingston Saturday afternoon in Sulphur. The Redskins entered as the top seed in the tourney. The Wildcats hammered out four hits on the afternoon. Raygan Dodd singled for the 'Cats in the opening inning but was stranded on the base paths. Kingston plated a run in the bottom of the first to take the early lead Saturday. Traven Bagley added a hit for Madill but did not score. The Madill defense allowed no runs in the second for the 'Skins with senior Corbin Larason getting the start on the hill for the Wildcats. Dodd added another single in the third and Tanner Barnes plated an RBI to tie the game on a fielder's choice in the championship contest, 1-1. The Redskins plated another run in the bottom of the third to take the 2-1 advantage. Riley McDaniel singled in the fourth for the 'Cats but did not score. Kingston came through with two runs in the bottom of the frame to lead, 4-1. The 'Skins plated a run in the fifth and the sixth inning to record the victory and claim the championship. Madill defeated No. 6 seed Davis Thursday and No. 2 seed Lone Grove Friday to earn the spot in Saturday's championship game. Madill goes to Marietta on April 18. They have drawn Lone Grove on the road for the district playoffs. |
