Senior Edgar Padron nailed two free throws with 9.88 seconds left in the overtime frame to help seal a 44-40 victory for the Madill boys basketball squad against the Davis Wolves on the road Feb. 2 (Tuesday). The Wolves' last possession of the contest yielded nothing for Davis and Madill headed back down I-35 with the four-point triumph.
Davis tied the contest, 38-38, with 3.2 seconds to go in regulation on a jumper from the left wing. Raygan Dodd's shot attempt at the end of regulation just barely missed the mark. Dodd's 14 points paced the Wildcats on the night.
With the scored knotted, 24-24, with just under three minutes to play in the third period, Wildcats' senior guard Taber Bagley scored five consecutive points. Madill led 29-24 with 2:09 to go. Bagley and his fellow 'Cats weren't done yet. They held the slim edge heading into the fourth quarter. Bagley's scoring frenzy in the second half produced 13 points and kept the 'Cats in the fight against the Wolves. Corbin Larason contributed nine points to the cause. Dylan Gilmore had four points and Davius Sanders collected two points.
The girls faced another opponent that was ranked for the second consecutive game. The Lady Wolves came in 14-1. Davis was productive in the paint throughout the contest. Madison Jowers and Quaja Byars led the Lady 'Cats with eight points each. Rylee Ruff and Kaitlyn Jones had six points. Senior Madi Cook pitched in five points. Kortlyn Yow, Macayla Moore and Brook Erwin each had two points on the evening.
Madill meets Dickson for homecoming Friday and hosts Byng Saturday.
