The Madill basketball teams made the most of senior night by downing Dickson in the double-header Saturday night inside the Wildcat Fieldhouse. Both local clubs overcame deficits to conquer the Comets in the regular-season finale. The Lady Wildcats beat Dickson 47-39 and the 'Cats won 75-65. The girls struggled to get on the board early in the first half. They trailed 9-1 after the first quarter. However, Madill managed to slowly chip away at the Lady Comets' cushion. "The girls played with a lot of heart tonight," Lady 'Cats head coach Hugh Don Sweat said. They grabbed the 31-29 advantage by the end of the third period. Brenna Green's play in the final frame aided in the girls win. Kaylen Sweat led the team with 24 points. Haley Furr finished with 12. The boys held the 13-12 lead after the first frame. Dickson held the 26-25 edge at halftime. The second half see-sawed back-and-forth and the 'Cats put together a 4-0 run with 4:37 to go in the third for a 33-31 lead. "They played with more intensity in the second half," Madill head coach Aaron George said. "I was happy to see the seniors come away with a win." Madill slowly distanced themselves from the Comets in the final frame with perimeter buckets from Blake Conway and Colton Clement and the inside-the-paint buckets from Joe Avery, Samuel Bond and Gereall Jordan. Madill is set to host Plainview for the Class 4A district playoffs on Feb. 22. The game scheduled at Plainview Feb. 18 will not be played.
