Colton Clement was stopped on a two-point conversion attempt with 1:04 to go in the game as Dickson escaped Alumni Field Friday with a 37-35 win over the 'Cats. Clement had just connected with receiver Keondre Morris on a nine-yard touchdown strike to close within two. Clement seized the lead for Madill early on with a 90-yard return for a TD at the 6:36 point of the first quarter. Carlos Torres' kick made it 7-0. Dickson running back Chris Bamberg spun in on one-yard run and Cole King's kick tied the game 7-7 with 1:05 to go in the first. The Comets grabbed the lead when Mico Blancett rushed 34 yards to the end zone at the 9:09 mark of the second quarter. Madill bounced back to tie the game on a 71-yard TD pass to Spence Weaver from Clement. Madill then nudged ahead on the strength of Clement's five-yard scamper with 1:01 left before the half. Dickson struck back with a 22-yard field goal by King to cut the Madill edge to 21-17 with five ticks left in the half. Bamberg gave the Comets the 23-21 lead again on a 30-yard scoring run at the 6:28 mark of the third. Clement's nine-yard run pushed Madill ahead and his conversion pass to Rio Zamora had Madill up 29-23 with 2:13 to go in the third frame. Dickson was back on top when King connected with Bamberg on a 70-yard pass at the 11:48 mark of the final period. Blamcett's 15-yard run stretched the Comets lead to 37-29 with 6:59 left to go in the contest. Colton Erwin's fumble recovery helped the 'Cats set up a score. Codi Sandefur claimed the queen's crown and Clement was named king during the ceremony prior to the football game tonight.
