The winds were sweeping down the plains on this Oklahoma Land Run Day and a win came sweeping down the base paths on senior day for the Wildcats' baseball club against Dickson Monday evening. The 'Cats collected a 9-6 win over the Comets helped in large part by, you guessed it, Madill seniors. In the bottom of the fifth inning with two out and Madill trailing 4-3, Wildcat senior right fielder Garrett Brannan drilled a shot into left-center field that rolled to the wall and plated Paten Bond and Joe Avery to take back a 5-4 advantage heading into the sixth frame. Garrett was tagged out at third for the final out of the fifth. It stayed 5-4 until the bottom of the sixth when Madill scored four runs highlighted by hits from senior Hunter Chapa and another three-run homer from the bat of Samuel Bond. Senior Shadow Marris began the day on the mound for Madill. He added his own two-run homer to right field in the first inning. Senior Gage Goff played solidly at catcher. Senior shortstop Ke'ven Davis ripped a hit that hugged the foul line in left. Ivan Flores, another Wildcat senior, logged some crucial outs in his role as relief pitcher. Brannan closed the day on the bump. Paten Bond singled up the middle in his final at-bat on senior day using a wooden bat. Jonathan Sutherland filled the role of designated hitter Monday.
Madill travels to Lone Grove Thursday to face the Longhorns at 4:30 and 6 p.m. for the district playoffs. An if necessary game will be played Friday. Madill must win two games to advance to the regional tournament.
