Jared Williams raced home and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning from third base as a third-strike pitch found ground and rolled to the backstop by the Dickson catcher. The 'Cats plated an insurance run for an 8-6 lead and held on as Tabor Bagley shut down the Comets in the last half of the seventh frame to secure the consolation title for Madill in the Pauls Valley Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Madill started fast in the first inning as the first run came in by a bases-loaded walk. Paxton Arterberry then delivered a two-RBI single and the 'Cats had a 3-0 lead on Dickson. The Comets mustered a one-out RBI in the bottom of the first to close the gap to 3-1 at the end of the first inning. Raygan Dodd hit for an RBI after Corbin Larason singled for Madill in the second innning. Larason shut down Dickson from the mound in the last half of the frame. Dickson was retired in order. Each team held the other scoreless in the third inning. The Comets plated four unearned runs in the fourth to grab a 5-4 edge on Madill. Arterberry again put the ball in play in the fifth as he lifted a pop fly to center on a check swing. Two converging Comets missed the ball and brought in two runs. Madill regained the advantage, 6-5. The Wildcats defense kept the Comets from the scoreboard in the fifth as Williams took over for Larason on the bump. Madill threatened, but no score came across in their half of the seventh. Riley McDaniel had an infield single that caromed off of the pitcher's glove toward third base.
