Students in Mrs. Goff's environmental science class discovered how a rock quarry operates during a field trip to Mill Creek Feb. 24 to Martin Marietta Products .
Students learned how granite was mined and processed for consumer use.
The company supplies material for railroad tracks and building construction.
"They are really passionate about what they do," MHS junior Samantha Awalt said. "It's something you should go see."
Students saw how rock was mined and crushed. Awalt likened the rock crusher to a mortar and pestle instrument.
Casey Pense also attended the field trip.
