The Madill Lady Wildcats claimed the regional consolation championship on Saturday in Tuttle with a 59-49 victory over the Lady Broncs of Bethany. Today's win advances the Lady 'Cats into the area tournament in Chickasha on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. against Cache.
However, the boys closed their season with a 60-52 loss to Bethany in the consolation final Saturday afternoon.
The Lady 'Cats' Kaylen Sweat and Haley Furr accounted for a majority of Madill's offensive production Saturday. For the second day in a row Sweat tossed in a team-high 32 points on the afternoon. Furr added another 18 to Madill's section of the scoreboard. Brenna Green had a solid outing defensively while chipping in six points in the winning effort. Mikah Hartsfield bucketed three points. Elizabeth Schulke contributed minutes in the paint. Bailey Sparks and Blakelyn Self also played well. Kaitlyn Richardson saw playing time. Madill turned a slight 26-24 advantage by the end of the first half into a comfortable cushion for much of the second half. They were up three possessions, 50-41, by the end of the third frame.
"It was a great week of basketball," Lady 'Cats' head coach Hugh Don Sweat said Saturday night.
The boys held a 14-11 edge at the end of the first period. Bethany bounced back to take a 29-20 into the locker room at halftime. Madill actually outscored Bethany 32-31 in the second half. Joe Avery had 15 points, Samuel Bond had 14, Blake Conway finished with 12. Colton Clement chipped in 11 points.
