Lady 'Cats Light up Scoreboard in Final Frame to Claim Win over Comanche; Boys Outdistanced by Indians in Second Half in Loss

A 24-point fourth quarter by the Lady Wildcats' offense powered Madill's 49-43 victory over Comanche Tuesday night at the Wildcat Fieldhouse. This was the first day back for Madill students and the first basketball contest of 2014 for MHS.
"We found a way to win," Lady Cats' head coach Hugh Don Sweat said Tuesday evening.
Three Lady Wildcats scored in double figures to help the winning cause. Senior Kaylen Sweat paced the girls' club with 16 points, Brenna Green added 12 and Haley Furr tossed in 10.
Madill started with only 16 points points in the opening half, but held a four-point edge on the Lady Indians at intermission. The final quarter saw Madill outscore Comanche by five points. Brenna Green had six of her points in the final frame. Mikah Hartsfield's layup off of a missed free throw gave Madill a 43-37 advantage with 2:15 remaining in the game. 
Sweat's three-pointer with 4:18 to go in the contest propelled Madill into the lead at 36-35. 
The Wildcats battled to a 34-32 lead at halftime, but were eventually outdistanced in the second half half by the Indians in a 68-54 loss. Two Madill players scored in double figures. Joe Avery led with 23 points and Samuel Bond collected 17 points. Comanche college-prospect Jacob Hammond was a presence in the paint. He accounted for 23 of Comanche's points. Madill competes at the Patriot Ford Byng Invitational Basketball Tournament Jan. 9-11.
