Madill junior Makayla Barnett led all scorers with 27 points Friday night as the Lady Wildcats ousted Purcell from the Class 4A regional basketball tournament on the Lady Dragons' home floor, 67-56. The Lady 'Cats built a 33-25 advantage by halftime. Madill topped Purcell 34-31 in the second half to advance to Saturday's regional consolation final against Cushing at 1:30 p.m. in Purcell. The Wildcats jumped to an early 24-9 lead by the end of the first quarter and held off a late strike by the Dickson Comets in the final minutes to record a 78-67 triumph and remain in contention for the regional consolation championship. They face Harrah at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Purcell. Harrah survived an overtime thriller against Lone Grove late Friday night. The Longhorns defeated Madill Feb. 18 for the district title, 48-39. |
