The Madill Lady Wildcat basketball team came up big when it counted. They emerged from the Gary Scott Center in Lone Grove Feb. 18 with the district crown after a 67-47 triumph over the Lady 'Horns. The inside game of Haley Furr and Makayla Barnett coupled with the outside shooting of Kaylen Sweat, Bethany Gamble, Brenna Green and Mikah Hartsfield assured Madill would advance in the winners' bracket of the Douglass regional Feb. 23. Furr led the girls with 18 points and Barnett chipped in 17 to help pace the Lady 'Cats in the Class 4A District Championship game. The Madill girls now face Douglass at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Oklahoma City-Douglass. The Lady Trojans edged out Cushing 47-46 on Feb. 17. The boys closed within 33-32 in the second half before Lone Grove outscored the Wildcats 15-7 the rest of the way for a 48-39 victory on Saturday. The contest was tied 16-16 at halftime. The Madill boys are relegated to the consolation bracket of the Douglass regional Feb. 23 with the setback. Senior point guard Holden Cass led the way with his 13 points. The 'Cats play Cushing at 3 p.m. on Feb. 23 at Oklahoma City-Douglass. The Trojans defeated Cushing Feb. 17. |
