The weather in Oklahoma was odd Friday (Jan. 31) even by Sooner State winter standards. The mercury climbed to a balmy temperature and citizens were seen wearing shorts. It was also an odd beginning for the Lady Wildcats Friday night in their battle with Kingston at the Wildcat Fieldhouse with missed shots early that had them leading by just a slim 12-9 margin by the end of the first frame. However, Madill turned on the offense and ratcheted up the defense in the second period to outscore the Lady Redskins 20-9 and grabbed the 32-18 halftime cushion. The Lady 'Cats cruised in the second half on the way to a 68-37 runaway win in Th Sneaker game. Senior Kaylen Sweat poured in 27 points to pace the Madill squad. "It was a great effort tonight," Coach Hugh Don Sweat said of his team's win Friday. The Wildcats did not fare as well in a 56-33 loss to the Redskins and were forced to lose The Shoe Friday in front of a packed house full of revved up fans. The 'Cats hung tough with the 'Skins in the first quarter and only trailed by a 12-7 score at the end of the period. However, Madill managed only four points in the second frame and retreated to the locker room facing a 28-11 deficit. The effort was there in the second half for Madill, but Kingston outscored the Wildcats 28-22 in the triumph. Senior Haley Furr was named queen during the homecoming festivities Friday. Jared Caldwell was tabbed king in the ceremony. Madill plays at Davis Feb. 4. The boys will play first at 6:30 p.m. and the girls game will follow on Tuesday night.
