Land Run for Oklahoma Marks 125th Anniversary Today

posted Apr 22, 2014, 7:00 AM by Brandon Jacks
On this day in 1889, the unassigned land in what is presently Oklahoma was opened for settlement for the first time. It became known as Land Run Day in Oklahoma. Today marks the 125th anniversary of that event. The triple-A baseball team in Oklahoma City used to be called the 89ers. Now they are called the Redhawks.
Today is also Earth Day.
