It seems as though the calendar has been on warp speed since the second semester of school began in January. Now, the last week of school arrives with a myriad of year-end activities on the calendar. Baccalaureate is set for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (May 17) inside the Wildcat Fieldhouse. The Madill sports banquet takes place at 6 p.m. on Monday (May 18) at the Wildcat Den and Fieldhouse. The MHS classroom awards ceremony is slated for 10 a.m. on Tuesday (May 19) at the Wildcat Fieldhouse. The senior awards and scholarship program is planned for 6 p.m. on Tuesday (May 19) at the Wildcat Fieldhouse.
The semester tests will be given starting with the even numbered classes (2, 4, 6 & 8) on Wednesday. The odd numbered classes (1, 3, 5 & 7) will be administered on Thursday. Thursday (May 21) is the last official day of school. Graduation is planned for Friday (May 22) at 7:30 p.m. on Alumni Field.
Madill High School has had a long history of success since it began in 1909. In February, Madill attorney Dan Little spoke to the National Honor Society students about that subject.
Athletically, Madill has seen success through the years. The Wildcats have claimed 16 total team state championships among all sports. It is 17 adding the 1916 state title in football. Those championships include the 1960 boys basketball team. In girls cross country, the Lady 'Cats have claimed a gold plaque in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Boys cross country gold banners have been hung in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Girls track team state crowns have come in 1983, 1986 and 1988. Wildcat wrestlers claimed a team championship in 1992 and 1993. The Madill boys track squad took home a championship in 1964.
The sports facilities have been renovated since 1998. That includes creation of Tom Reynolds Softball Field. The Alumni Field was renovated. The baseball field received a makeover in 2005 before hosting the Lake Country Conference tournament. The new weight room and fitness facility became reality in 2006. Alumni Field received a new scoreboard in 2007. A new track surface was installed in 2009. The Wildcat Fieldhouse has seen improvement with new scoreboards in 2010 and air conditioning in 2014. The wrestling room and weight facility was updated in 2012. A new softball scoreboard was installed in 2012.
The indoor practice facility was introduced in 2014 at what was formerly the armory. And plans are underway to update the lights on the baseball field in the summer of 2015.
